Invoices and tax

GST and tax IDs, invoices and credit notes, and how Indian and overseas customers are billed.

Draft

Tax treatment is being confirmed with Sieve's chartered accountant. Treat this page as a description of the plan, not tax advice.

Invoices

Every top-up produces a tax invoice. Refunds and corrections produce a credit note that refers to the original invoice. Invoices are numbered per Indian financial year (for example STH/2026-27/0001, credit notes STH-CN/...), starting again each 1 April. The console lists invoices and credit notes under Billing, history. PDF download is not available yet.

For large customers, invoices are issued under contract (for example Vault licences, Foundry builds and pilots) and paid by bank transfer.

India: GST

  • INR prices are shown plus 18 percent GST. Complete Billing → Tax with your legal name, billing address and state before adding credits.
  • Add your GSTIN when you create the organisation, or later in the console's billing tax details, before you pay, to receive a GST invoice in your business name. The console checks the GSTIN's format: the state code, the PAN inside it, and the final check character, so most typos are caught as you type. Enter your regular GSTIN; TDS, TCS, UIN and non-resident registrations can't be used here (contact support). If your GSTIN's state differs from the billing state you pick, the console asks you to correct one of them. Without a GSTIN the invoice uses the legal name in your billing tax profile.
  • Your billing state is the place of supply and decides the tax split: CGST and SGST when it is the same state as Sieve's GSTIN (Telangana), IGST for other states. Each invoice records the place of supply and the CGST, SGST and IGST amounts.
  • The GSTIN you gave when creating the organisation is pre-filled on the tax page; the one saved there is the one used everywhere.
  • A discount shown on the invoice at the time of sale lowers the taxable value.

Outside India

  • Businesses with a valid tax ID (for example an EU VAT ID) are invoiced with no Indian tax. The tax ID is reviewed after you enter it, and the console shows its status. Export of services is zero-rated: a top-up from a billing country outside India carries no GST, and the invoice notes the Letter of Undertaking (LUT) when one is on file. The invoice states that the reverse charge applies in your country where relevant.
  • Consumers outside India (no business tax ID): how tax is collected is not settled yet. Write to support@sthanika.ai before your first top-up.
  • Withholding tax: if your country requires you to withhold tax on payments to us, tell us before the first invoice. We can supply a tax residency certificate and Form 10F, and the contract says whether the amount is net or grossed up.

Your details

Keep your legal name, billing address and tax ID up to date in the console. Invoices already issued keep the billing details recorded when they were created. Refund credit notes retain those original details; a correction needs a credit note and a new invoice.

Records

We keep invoices, credit notes and GST records for at least 72 months from the annual return due date, and books of account for 8 financial years, as the law requires. See Data retention.
